The Seven Sailors Who Died on Fitzgerald Identified

In a tragic, freak accident involving the U.S.S. Fitzgerald, seven Sailors were found to have lost their lives in a fight to keep the ship above water.

The Navy was conducting a routine maneuver when a Philippine merchant ship collided with them, causing severe damage. Seven Sailors were missing after the incident and after a lengthy search, have now been found inside of a flooded compartment.

From IJR:

The seven were hailed as heroes by the U.S. 7th Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Joseph P. Aucoin:

“They had to fight the ship to keep it above the surface. So it was traumatic. I can’t tell you how proud I am of the crew for what they did to save the ship.”

The names of the seven crew members were released on Sunday afternoon:

A horrible turn of events. May God rest their souls and help their families and friends get through this terrible tragedy.  I certainly hope the Navy figures out what happened here. RIP brave sailors, America mourns your deaths.

Thank you for your service and ultimate sacrifice. Deepest condolences to the families, friends and fellow sailors during this difficult time.
